Question: “Did the Prophet experience al-Isrāʾ and al-Miʿrāj in an awaken state or in his sleep?”
Response: “The Isrāʾ and the Miʿraj occurred in an awaken state for the Prophet. Even though there are some weak views saying that it occurred in his sleep or when he was between the state of sleeping and being awake.
However, what is correct and for which we hold no doubt is that it occurred when he was awake.
If this incident had occurred when he was asleep and not when he was awake there would not have been a miracle in it which caused some of those weak in faith to doubt their religion and it would not have caused the polytheists to mock the Prophet.” [p. 53]
